I received a Tom Tom One XL for Christmas. After fooling with the unit for
nearly two days, I finally called Tom Tom help. I told them I could not
download a required file (perhaps more, the TomTomHOME software leaves a lot
to be desired) and the map was missing information. I was told their web
site was severely overloaded and it was likely I couldn't access the site to
obtain the necessary information until sometime after the first of the year.
When pressed, the young lady said it might be quite a while after the start
of the year. I was also told their map data did not cover gated communities
(this with a detectable hint of "how stupid can you be?").

I have the following comments: 1) TomTomHOME leaves a lot to be desired, 2)
The web site is almost as bad (apparently designed by "techies" for
"techies"), 3) I have a Garmin c530 and they DO have maps that include gated
communities (and it's a great little device).

In my opinion, TOM TOM ONE XL rates F--. If you're looking for a good
automobile based navigation system, I'd look elsewhere. These guys need to
figure out what the market is all about.
