Author Crossing (physical) Meridian 180

I have twice crossed Meridian 180 on a ship, travelling in the western
direction (from 179W to 179E). I have a Magellan GPSR.

In both instances, the unit went nuts as we crossed the meridian ...
constantly re-booting itself. I'm just curious and would appreciate
comments from others on:

1. Would/does Garmin also fail in this situation?

2. Would/does this happen travelling in the other direction (from 179E to
179W)?

TIA

P.S. - there is no problem travelling from 1N to 1S.
