importing Fugawi routes into Explorist 210

| Hello - I'm new here and I'd like to ask for some help please. I have
a set of Fugawi UK digital V2. I can create waypoints, tracks and
routes fine on the maps on the PC. I'd like to put them (any of them
really, routes would be super, but I could settle for tracks or
waypoints) into my Magellan Explorist 210 Europe. Now the thing is; I
asked Fugawi if the two things would talk to each other and they said
'sure, go right ahead and spend your money, it will all be fine'. Of
course, now I have it all it doesn't actually work. I've tried their
support since mid October, but we really aren't getting anywhere and it
is all getting a bit tetchy now, so I hoped someone else would explain
how to do this? I have also had a look at GPSBabel and GPS Visualiser,
both of which use a (in fact the same I think) converter. What they
say is that only waypoints can be converted - but even this doesn't
work. I'm no programmer, but I'm not a total numpty either, so if
anyone could shed some light, perhaps by explaining the file format
that Fugawi exports the waypoint data in, that would be splendid and if
we were ever to end up at the same geocache I could buy you an
ice-cream or something.

Hey Keltic,
First off, unless there's been a major change to Fugawi or the 210,
they're not compatible. And it's a shame, because I really like the look
of the Fugawi package.
Basically, my understanding is that, for the 210, when it went USB,
Magellan also did something funky with its file format.
I've tried any number of software packages with my 210, and the only one
that's come close has been GPS Trackmaker, although it's mainly through
doing a workaround - either accessing the file directly on the unit via
GPST or using the Magellan software to export it, then mess around with
it with GPST and re-import it.
It should be noted, however, that I am nowhere near an expert in these
things.

DJ - appreciate your response - thanx. I'll go look at GPS Trackmate
and see what I can figure out.
If you are having similar problems, then one thing I found that was a
step along the path was a developer kit from Magellan - available here
http://www.magellangps.com/interfac...plorist_IS.asp. This
contains a bunch of example file formats you can read with notepad, and
a PDF that explains the file parameters - so it was jolly useful in
understanding how the 210 is supposed to think.
The blocking issue now is that I can't figure out how Fugawi format
their export files, as it doesn't really read in notepad - anyone any
clues?
Thank you

Oh and BTW the Fugawi map package could be/should be quite good. It is
certainly cheap compared with others and because it is based on OS maps
you get a familiar and good level of detail. It's only 1:50K so you
are not down to the level of detail you get with a 1:25K paper map.
The place finder (type in a place name and find it) is cool, I can find
farms and things at a pretty high level of detail, but street names are
excluded unless you pay extra. The 3d thingey is a gimmick - but you
can waste hours 'flying' about and it is quite fun. Setting up tracks
and routes etc in the map software is easy.
BUT - I can't whole-heartedly recommend them, because I took
considerable trouble to check with them that it would work with my 210
Europe *before* I bought stuff, including downloading the demo from the
interweb, establishing that this *didn't* work, querying this, being
told (in writing!) that the demo wasn't fully featured and the full
price package would work etc. When it didn't they admitted they had
made a mistake and it isn't compatible, but haven't come up with a
workable remedy despite suggesting that a converter would be available
first 'End Nov', then 'Xmas' , now 'sometime in 2007' - shabby!

Feb 3rd UPDATE - well, tried to contact Fugawi to ask how the
converter was doing. I was told it was 'low priority' and that no
timescale could be given. So - I've got a bunch of maps that cost over
UK=A3100 and that don't work in the way I was promised they would. Yeah
- I'm P*ssed now, as I've been patient - Moral of the story IMO DON'T
BUY FUGAWI COS THEY DON'T GIVE A MONKEY'S CUSS.
