TomTom Navigator 6

| I have a Navigator 5 on my Axim X50V and want to upgrade to Navigator 6 and
have a few questions.
Do I have to uninstall Navigator 5 before installing 6. If yes, how do I
completely uninstall?
I have a 2 gig SD card, should I install the entire US map or does this
cause a poor response?
Does the new version give verbal instruction that say make right turn onto
main street or does it do same as ver 5 which just says make right turn at
corner?
Thanks for any answers and any other information about ver. 6

There is no requirement to uninstall v5 before installing v6 but to avoid
any posssible issues I would do so. Text to Speech is onloy available on
the TomTom GO910. It is not available on any PDA version.

How is the best way to uninstall ver. 5? I have it installed on memory in
the Axim but I have the maps installed on an SD card.

Just use the add/remove, take a copy of the SD card's contents and then wipe
that seperately.

While using TT Home, I had to remove the TT ver 5 map on my SD card
before I could install ver 6. It won't do it automatically when you want to
upgrade.
I wonder if the text to speech engine will work on an older TT GO using
a bigger SD card?

No, and also not on the GO 510 and GO 710 which are from the same
generation and so not even any older.
It's really nice having the GO 910 read out one's cell phone SMS messages.

| Any suggestions about installing the entire US on my 2 gig SD card or should
I only install regions of US?

Do you get a choice? I went from the European version of TTN5 to 6 and
had to install the whole of Europe, I couldn't choose which countries
to install.

| I have not tried installing yet but I was told by TomTom that I have a
choice (and I saw something about this on another posting). The TomTom
person was sharp enough to tell me which way to go and I sent TomTom tech
support an email but they haven't bother responding.
Any help would be appreciated.
On your installation for all of Europe, do you see any downside versus only
the country you had installed previously.

I looked at TT6 a while back and it had all the U.S. (or was it North
American?) mapping in one folder, it did not use the regions and a major
road folder any more. The folder that had the mapping was 1.2 GB in
size and the only choice was all or none. So you would need a 2 GB card
at a minimum.
I think the advantage of that would be that you can route across regions
and the transition from major roads to detail maps would be seamless.

| I agree it would be an advantage to install the entire US and I already have
a 2 gig SD card. The only thing I was thinking about was the performance.
When I purchased the Navigator 5 software they told me that it was broken
into regions to improve the performance.

I have the entire US & Canada maps on my 1gb card for the TT 300. In fact
the new version 6 is somewhat smaller than ver 5.
