I have a Garmin streetpilot c510, with BeNeLux map in it.
Now I updated with the (free update) DVD City Navigator NT Europe v9.
At the end I got the message update was succesfull.
Now in the unit under map info I see:

City Navigator NT Europe v9 with a checkmark, and
[1] BeNeLux

It also installed the Mapsource program on the PC, where I can see all of
Europe and I can select parts of other countries.
Can I add other countries to the unit? (I have no SD card in the unit)
Total memory in the unit seems to be 515 MB, of which about half is used.

I want to ask this first, because I can find nowhere how to remove maps
again from the unit.

Dear Lienea Recta

Yes, you can add other map parts from your PC using MapSource on your C510
uint.
It is possible to store your supplementary map(s) on a SD card as well as on
the internal disk of the C510 unit.
The size of the maps you can store is only limited by the amougth of memory
free on your internal disk or on your SD card.
To upload the map's parts, use the MAP tool of MapSource to selecte the area
of interest. You can only upload one supplementary map on each support. Each
new upload from MapSource will erase the previous supplementary maps already
store on each support. This way you can change supplementary maps
indefinitively.

In fact you never need to erase a previous supplemantary map set from the
C510. If for one obscure reason you still want to erase it, you simply have
to delete (or move to a safe place for future use) the file 'gmapsupp.img'
from the C510 unit internal disk space.

P.S.: To achieve good functionalities on your Garmin C510 unit, try to keep
at least 10 to 20 Mo free on the internal disk.

hi CRet,

Thanks for your input.
This device belongs to my 80 year old father (still driving!), but he
doesn't have internet access and he asked me to update the device software
(done) and... the road maps.
When he bought the Garmin, it only contained BeNeLux version 8. Now I had
read that he could order a free update to version 9 on DVD. So when the DVD
arrived I installed it here, I did the unlock procedure on line and that's
when I found out I got a large application on my PC called 'MapSource'. The
update of BeNeLux completed "sucessfully", and after that I had a brief look
into the MapSource application. I was surptrised to see I can select maps
all over Europe to be added to the device.
I have an SD card lying around of only 64 MB, and this seemed just large
enough to add a few parts of Germany where he's gong on holiday shortly. In
MapSource the amount of MB's for the chosen maps is displayed (very handy!)
But I found the concept of Garmin unlock codes a little confusing. What maps
can I use and what maps not? So the unlock code is sufficient for all
displayed parts of Europe I can select? That would be great!
If so I'l tell him to buy a 2 GB SC card.

I'm new to Garmin. I recently started using TomTom 6 Navigator myself on a
PDA (Asus Mypal A730) with a bluetooth GPS mouse. This type isn't even
mentioned in the support list of TomTom, but it is working fine :-)

The idea was that I wanted to add some maps without the danger of disturbing
the original contents.

So, for example I could add all of Europe as long as I do it at once, when I
have an SD card of 2 GB?

OK, the internal space of the Garmin is about 515 MB, of which about half is
used. But I haven't touched the internal space. I'll only use an SD card for
adding maps.

So that won't be a problem following paragraph above.
