The correct coordinates format for Virtual Earth
|
|
| ryano 2007-02-16, 12:33 pm |
| I am getting coordinate information using a GPS receiver using NMEA. I
am not sure what format this is but an example of what it looks like
is shown below
latitude: 53.046574 longitude: -7.153381
Does anyone know what format this is? and what format I need to used
it with Microsoft Virtual Earth or google maps? and if so, how I
convert to this format.
Thanks in Advance,
Sean

Those are decimal degrees. To convert to degrees minutes seconds
you can use an online resource here:
http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/DDDMMSS-decimal.html
(Type in the pink box).
If you want to do it longhand, there's a tutorial here:
http://geography.about.com/library/howto/htdegrees.htm
Google takes several formats and decimal degrees are one of them.
Enter the data as shown below:
53.046574 -7.153381

PS.. I don't know about Microsoft Virtual Earth. I've never used it.
