Author Magellan 760 map updates

I've had my 760 for a year now. Today when I turned it on, it
suggested that I go to Magellan web site to see if there were any
updates for the maps. I went, but could not find any reference to
updates nor of how one might get them into the device.

Does anyone know if there are updates, and any link to page saying how
to order them and what they cost?

Thanks for responding, but I've been there and there is no mention of
downloading updated maps. There is info on how to unlock the European
maps (after paying about 30% of the price of the original unit).

I say again:

Dale

I just went through the same thing with my Magellan 300. After
several talks with their support dept, I found out that the answer to
your question is NO. Map send does not support our older units.

I was told that the only way to get updates now for our units was to
buy the Pre-loaded SD cards with the map files already on it. That is
the way they will put out updates. At $50 per card!

Thanks -- although I would not have thought that my 760 was yet in the
area of "older units" since it was introduced only 1 year ago. But then
the pace of technology is getting pretty fast.

My unit does not have an SD card. The map data is on an internal hard
drive.

Actually, the $50 does not sound all that bad a price. If you had the
Delorme mapping program with GPS unit that runs on a PC, then to get a
new map, you need to buy the upgrade software at a price of about that.
Don't have to buy a new GPS receiver though.

That sounds interesting but are those maps compatible with the 300
unit and how do you get the map files to the GPS unit? With the SD
card? Using a lap top in my car is not realistic for me. (My wife
said so!) 8:)

I just bought a 1 gig SD card that works on my 300 GPS for $20. It
holds well over twice as much as what comes on the store bought $50 SD
cards.

My statement about Delorme maps concerned maps for a PC GPS program,
not a Magellan unit.

Been there, done that, bought a Magellan 760.

My 760 does not have an SD card. Not sure how one would install an
upgrade if Magellan offered it. As of now, I don't think that they
have one for it.

My 760 purchased 1/1/07 does have a SD slot. It is mentioned in the
paperwork as for "future use"
