Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying NAVIGON PNA Transonic 7000T for my car.
Is that a good value for 600$?

Hmm, I'm reviewing that very device at present. First impressions are not
bad, the display is great, maps look good and all the necessary info is
present. However, it's a little slow (WinCE5.0) and the menus are somewhat
confusing. Early days though but I'll post the URL to the full review when
ready.

Out of interest, what price is an equivalent TomTom GO, say the 510 or 710?

is that with MN6.0 or MN6.1?

Will you include the helpfulness of the voice commands (driving
without looking at the display)? I think this is the major difference
between Navigon and TomTom.

Probably still 6.0. Version 6.1 is out already and all 6.0 users can
download an upgrade to get 6.1. This will however change the software
only, maps remain the same.
Check here for accuracy the maps. People were complaining about Navigon
to ship old maps (Q4/2005).

What do you mean by that?

I am using the software for a while now. It might a bit confusing at
first, but once you are used to the menus, it's actually an quite easy
to use device. Software startup and scrolling through the map is slow,
but you wont notice this once driving and following the directions.

Indeed. Navigon continue to use pre-recorded voice commands which are Ok but
TTS is far superior, especially as you say because it allows you to focus on
the road and not the display!

I'd be very interested in your review.

The Porsche branded version of that device (the Navigon P9611) is going to
have dual processors (a dedicated one for the graphics) so that should help
with the speed issues.

Saw that at CES, very nice looking unit and if the processor spec is as you
say then that should banish the speed issue. Sadly not yet available to
evaluate :(

Were you able to play with the unit at CES?

I contacted Navigon and they expect to release it sometime in Feb.

Also when do you hope to have your 7000T ready for publication?

I didn't get to play with a Porsche Design unit but saw one in the flesh.
As it ran the same software I didn't bother but TBH I wasn't aware of the
better spec hardware :(

Review will be available early next week, only got the unit Thursday.

Only Destinator ships newer maps (Q1/06) AFAIR.

Jepp. On TT, at least the one I remember on the PDA platform, it
sounds like "go to the motorway, then go to the motorway". Very
helpful indeed. On Navigon you get useful commands for driving, in
this situation it is "turn right, then drive on the left side" (all
translated from my German version, so it will be slightly different in
english). With these commands I don't need a map.
