| Got a class set of 20+ Garmin Legends for a good price. After arrival
realize they require a serial port. Computers we're using only have usb.
Don't want to pay $60 each for the Garmin serial to usb cable when I see
lots of no name cables/converters/adapters avaialable online for $15-$20. A
friend brought me a no name cable but I couldn't get that one to work. Any
suggestions out there? Have any of you successfully found an alternative
adapter?

The cheapest ones would be found on eBay. Look for ones that uses a
Prolific PL-2303 chip set and you should be okay.
If you're going to need 20 of them, I'd buy one and make sure it works
first.
I have three different ones, one is a Belkin F5U109 and two other
no-brand name generics and they all work the same but each requires its
own drivers.

I purchased one of these from TigerDirect.com, however they no longer
carry them.

Comes with a driver CD.
I have used this adapter for on various serial cable devices with
excellent results.

have a look at:
http://www.dontronics-shop.com/prod...productid=16139
and read the customer testimonials. You will see a couple of Garmins
mentioned there.
Try one, and if it doesn't work for you, return it in a re-sellable
condition for a full refund.
