Is anybody in this group using a Bluetooth GPS receiver with a Pocket PC Smartphone? Can you
recommend a good receiver?

I haven't used any onther receiver so I can't compare, but I'm happy with my
Royaltek 2100: http://www.royaltek.com/index.php/content/view/98/80/
Fast and sensitive. Works great with Tomtom on my Qtek 8310 phone.

Cheers,

Mark

I use a Holux GPSlim 240 with my Treo 700w. Works great with both Pocket
Streets and Google Maps Mobile. Charges through USB, and it's about the
size of my finger.

There are heaps and you have been given good advise from the other 2
responders as those are the 2 best known of the BT mob. I myself use a
Garmin GPS 10 and was little disappointed with the chipset at first. This
model has been upgraded to the good chipset and now sells as the mobile 10.
It's a fair bit more expensive than some others but the water resistance and
better ruggedness sealed the deal for me. If you go off the track as I do
(check my work address in the sig) look for those features, if not either
of the others is ideal.

There are a great many models around. The most important factors when
choosing one are chipset and battery life.

The best chipset currently is the SiRFStarIII chip. My current
performance favourite is the Zycast SG-288, see my review here:

I have, and am happy with, my Fuzion BT receiver with an integrated solar
cell to recharge the battery as you go along. When not in use it's charging.
When in use it discharges slower than ohers that do not have the solar cell.
This device also has SIRF chipset.

At first I had a Holux 230 with a non-SiRF chipset. Was acceptable reception
wise but is not waterproof and gave up working after only 10 or 15 times
use. It also had no hook or eye to attach a lanyard so I had to open it
carefully and drill a hole (that was not the reason for the failure). I had
to discard it.

I then bought a pretty much water- and dustproof TomTom SiRF III GPS BT
mouse, works like a charm, even partly indoors. It has a hole for a lanyard,
the price was good (some 80 euros) and it comes with a car charger and a 230
V charger. No solar though. Works just fine with my Nokia 6680 mobile phone.

Thanks to all who replied.
I ended up buying a Holux GPSlim236 – SIRF III chipset and supposed to be very good. If it is disappointing,
I will report and complain :)
