Author Using TomTom maps SD card in another machine - help
DCA

Hi
I have a TomTom Go 300
I have bought a 2nd hand SD card with US maps on it in preparation for
my US holiday
I was not aware (I am now) that it is locked to the machine it is first
used in.
It seems the TomTom writes back its serial number to a file on the card.
Is there any info available that will assist me to clear this so that I
can use it in my machine?

No. You need a Product Activation Key that is supplied with legitimate
maps. Without that you can't unlock the maps and indeed without that
you do not have a legitimate map.

Yes there is a work around for it and it does work.

If you are familiar with knowing how to use .rar files and have a newsbot
program (e.g Newsbin Pro) go to alt.binaries.warez.pocketpc.gps and download
the file set "USA and Canada 675_1409" you will get the map for North
America and an unlock tool with it.

When you run the unlock tool, you simply enter in the device ID that TomTom
Home supplies you and it will configure the map to the new device.

This requires the use and knowledge of third party software... but it DOES
work.

Enjoy your holiday here in the states!

No - I have a legitimate map and I have the relevant activation code on
a credit card thing
However this SD card was first used on a different machine to my own and
I think it is locked to that machines serial number

Well then... just connect up you SD card to your PC, extract the map data
from it and save it to a folder on your PC. Then load the unlock tool I
described into the same folder, run it, and enter in your TomTom device
number from home, and it will register the map data to the device you wish
to use it on. Then copy the whole kit and kaboodle back on to your SD card.

It may or may not be a "legit" way to do it, but it WILL work.

I cannot see how it can't be legit providing it is only on one machine.
Same issue with OEM operating systems under EU law.
The SD card is original with receipts etc and so my conscience is clear!
Many thanks

Thanks Steve
I've not ever messed with binaries and I have downloaded that program
you suggested under 10 day trial and - how complicated !
I expect the same download will be available on a warez website
somewhere huh

David,

There is a crack out there for Newsbin. You will need to Google to find the
programs "Winrar" and "Winpar" to fool around with binaries. Newsbin looks
(and is) complicated upfront but once you set it up it's very simple to use.

Winrar is a compression program (similar to Winzip) and Winpar is an error
checking and file rebuilding program (in case there are downloading errors
or if there are missing files.

PS... There is a crack out there for Winrar too but Winpar comes totally
free and is a terrific program.

Good luck!

David,

The app "Grabit" is another one you can try that might be simpler to use.

After you learn how the binary groups work... check out the Divx, DVD and
MP3 groups. Any movie or TV show and all the music you want!

OK, in which case the issue is slightly different. The product licence
allows installation on only one machine at a time and is not
transferable. However, the instalation code system permits a second
install after 14 days have passed since first install and a third after
180 days.

When you type in the code at www.ttcode.com, how many prior
installations does it list?

It doesn't say - it just says:
Note: this product has already been activated

You're a bad man!
I use a Russian web site for music - very cheap: www.Gomusic.ru
Actually I have downloaded 'Agent' software - that may do it and a lot more basic.
Can't find any binaries for this software though. I would imagine I only need one file replaced to use this CD card though?

Using Newsbin... set up the news server connection from your ISP and dowload
all the groups.

Go to the group I mentioned and and after you subbed to it left click and
use the "download all headers" and it should be there.

There's a DOS based version of the unlock app out there too but I like using
the Windows based one. The DOS one requires to use all those good ole DOS
commands... I liked using it cuz it made me feel young again like I was
back in High School computer lab... LOL!

Don't know much about "Agent" software or the Russian sights... why pay when
I can get it for free and so off the radar screen from iTunes and all those
services that are in the public domain.

So where are you going in the US??? Gonna take advantage of that weak US
dollar I see? I envy you... ciz with the weak dollar... it's like the US is
on sale to the world!!! But hey, our stock market is kicking some major XXX
though!!!

Hey Darren...

Why don't you answer my question???

You know I've been posting all over here about trying to set up a wireless
connection to use TT Plus with my cell phone. What, because I downloaded it
for free... you won't help me?

Maybe if you helped me from the get go instead of posting a smart-XXX, Mr.
Know-it-All reply, I just might buy something through your website and
reccomend it to other people. A smart businessman doesn't give a shit where
or from who, his money comes from. If you think you are doing the right
thing by not enabling me... you only hurt yourself.

Why the hell do you care how I got TT, anyway... there are thousands of
people out there doing what I do.

You think TomTom gives a crap about this guy's problems? Read up and down
the net... TomTom tech support sucks XXX and is non-responsive. They build
these stupid quirks into there software on purpose so "we the public" are
held hostage by them.

Planned for Easter 2008
I'm a thrill ride fan - love the parks in Florida
Would like to try the Ohio drop ride too but too far.
Yeah, exchange rate means flights, car hire and villa are cheaper than 2
years ago!
I'm hoping that UK and US Easter school breaks are not aligned which
will reduce the queuing!
I'll try to follow your advice. Found Newsbin daunting - prefer Forte Agent
Cheers
