Need help making a decision on gps purchase

| I'm looking to purchase a gps device for my car. I have specific
requirements in that i want automatic routing capabilities of multiple
destinations (up to 15 or so), voice prompts, and traffic
notification wouldnt be bad either (i can always get an add on for
that). My research brought me to the Garmin Street Pilot 2820. Does
anyone have experience with this device? Anything good/bad to say
about it? Are there other similar products that anyone would suggest
I get that is better than the 2820? I went with garmin since i hear
they are leaders in the industry, but i know there are several other
reputable brands with good products as well.
Thoughts??

| I bought a Delphi Nav 200 which has the option of adding the Traffic
Notification Kit with a lifetime subscription for $199. The reviews on
Traffic Notification seemed to indicate the information is too overwhelming
and needs some refinement to be useful. I will continue to monitor the
reviews and possibly add the feature later.
I paid $209 plus shipping for the GPS. I just want basic navigation and it
works fine for that. In the reviews I read people complained about the voice
commands, but I have no problem with it. It is a little slow transitioning
when selecting some functions but it really does the job for the price. Be
careful with the attachment to the base, the little plastic nubs that hold
the Nav to the windshield base break off easily if you adjust position
grabbing the NAV. Adjust by moving the flex gooseneck, not the NAV.
Overall, I really like the unit. I don't use the video, MP3, or Picture view
features, but it has that capability too. It seems plenty accurate for my
needs, and like any GPS, sometimes the routes are not exactly what you would
pick for starting out from your home, but it usually gets you to the fastest
or shortest fairly quickly and from there the routes are good. I used it
right out of the box and it was fairly intuitive to use. The address
database seems up to date for the maps, it found a friends home that was
built last year. It also avoids highway construction on a torn down overpass
that was done last year.
I'm sure Garmin is pretty good too for basics. I just liked the portable
size of the Delphi Nav 200. The windshield base is very nice too as far as
stability, but again don't adjust the position by grabbing the Nav, the
gooseneck is too stiff and it will break the connector tabs on the base. Ask
me how I know, there are no warnings in the instructions. Waiting for a
replacement from Delphi.
Good luck.

who might be doing research in examining these old threads.
Your choice of the SP 2820/2720 is an excellent choice for the use you
outlined.
I have the 2720 (same "navigational" unit as the 2820 without the
additional bells and whistles of the non-navigational stuff that the
2820 has) and the longer I own it and read (and sometimes respond to)
the postings in these newsgroups, the more convinced I am that I made
the right choice 'way back when'. I think it is the ultimate auto nav
unit (and yes that includes the SP 26xx units); I would compare it
favorably to the Magellan and the TomToms! I am tempted to buy an
additional unit just to use as a backup unit for the future, even
though Garmin, in their infinite wisdom has discontinued this unit! It
can do just about anything, from a navigational standpoint, that most
people want, once they understand what they "need" in their nav unit.
And, by the way, I have no connection with Garmin whatsoever, just a
satisfied 2720 user!
