Garmin GPS will not turn on

It's Garmin GPS 60cx. The unit has been dropped once and now it just
will
not turn on with any battery, NiMH or Alkaline.

Try it connected to a computer usb port for
external power and see if the battery connection
is the problem.
If not, I suspect it needs a trip to Garmin (may
anyway).

Connecting it via USB did nothing..
OK, it does turn on after I press the power button really hard with
something
pointed, like a pen. Does so after a minute of holding it. Something
is not
right, it didn't act like this before.
And, every time it gets turned on/off, it looses some settings, like
backlights gets reset to 0 and display mode from "auto" to "daytime".

Mine was difficult to turn on when new. Seems to be getting more difficult to
turn on as time goes by. Have you called Garmin. They are usually resonable
about repair. If you get this problem resolved please post results.

Drop it again, just 180 degrees out from the way you dropped it the
other time.

| Just installed a 2GB Kingston MicroSD card and downloaded most of the
East coast on it (The entire CD #2 doesn't fit, weird)
That of course got nothing to do with the issue of not turning on.
Today, in the morning it was turning on/off rather consistently
and quickly. In the evening though, it was back to the old
routine. Just didn't want to turn on. Took me about an hour
of multiple tries.
This of course is not what you want with you in an outdoors
situation. Garmin has been made aware of this, they seemed
rather cooperative thus far. Not sure if it's something
I did (when I dropped it) or a coincidence.
