My son has an eTrex Vista Cx, and I really like it. The only thing is,
we live in coastal Alaska, and we lose signal in the woods, more so when
it is cloudy/raining. How much better could I expect a Vista HCx to be
in this capacity? Thanks, Greg.

Greg,
Here is a relevent press release from Garmin on the "H"igh sensitive
eTrex units
http://www8.garmin.com/pressroom/outdoor/053107.html
which unfortunately is more qualitative than quantitative. In
comparison to the the Vista Cx, the only differences - other than
"high sensitivity" are that the HCx consumes batteries at a faster
rate, stores twice as many waypoints, and does not include the micoSD
card. I would also like to read results from a field test comparing
the two.

Compare the unit to a Garmin GPSMAP 76CX, or 76CSX(compass)(the units
float when dropped in water).
The Garmin 76 series is the unit preferrred by professionals. They are
worth the extra money.
