| I bought my wife a TomTom One. I was looking at their website, and they
have detailed regional maps for sale. Are they different than the maps
that come on the unit? Are they worthwhile?

Depends. For example, a map of Germany on its own will be better for
coverage of Germany than Great Britain and Major Roads of Europe. But if you
have the Western Europe map, then that includes the same detail for Germany
as is on the German map. What is the map name and version?

I have the USA and Canada maps on the unit.
They have southeast regional maps of the USA for sale as well. Are these
the same maps or more detailed?

They are the same.

| The regional maps are for non-North Americans who wish to save some money by
buying only the region where they will be travelling. It's cheaper than
buying the entire map of continent.
So you are just fine with the map you have.

The DVD I purchased contained both the North America, regional, and many
State maps.
As far as I can tell they are all the same. So why use a State or
regional map instead of the North America map?
The smaller the map, the faster the look up and response of the unit. I
load in the smallest map that I need. I only load a regional or North
America map if I am traveling between States of across regions, or going
to Canada. There is a huge difference in the response time of the unit.

Interesting. Is it worth 50 bucks for the speed?

The only reason I would do that would be if I lacked sufficient available
space for storage on the unit's memory or SD card etc.

That sounds plausible but I can't see any difference like that.

How strange that the difference is huge for you and unnoticeable for me.

Plenty of examples to prove this happens, even on a 910 it's very much
quicker to perform an address search using the regional map than it is
using the MoWE.
