I just bought a TomTom one. I went to their website and they recommend
updating regularly. I checked for updates and downloaded it. Now my
TomTom doesn't work, and the backup won't load.

I start the unit and it goes all the way to choose map screen. I can
choose the map but it won't allow me to choose done.

I tried resetting. No Go. Any thoughts??

I assume you activated it, correct?

It never asked me to activate it, so I'm not sure what you mean. I used
the unit for an hour or so before I did the update.

Is the activation done in the software or unit?

I can't access any screens in the unit so I'm screwed there.

Don't stress. You're not the first and won't be the last. I'm assuming you
bought a TTOne XL or TTOne Regional and were downloading the updates when
things went pear shaped. Similar thing happened to a mate of mine in and it
corrupted his maps.

Most likely during the update process the ttsystem file or faces.dat file
within the map folder have corrupted. If that is the case, it doesn't know
it is a TomTom anymore.

What to do:-

1. Take it straight back to the seller and tell them it was buggered when
you got it out of the box, or

2. Ring TomTom Support in your geographic area

3. If you have a friend with the same unit and same map version, simply
format your SD card and replace your ttsystem file and ay other files in
your Map folder that have a different number of kilobytes. Since your
version of the map previously worked, with this overwrite it will still
work - so long it is the same version of the map.

IT CAN BE VERY FRUSTRATING BUT IT IS FIXABLE.

Once you have it fired up again you need to make a complete back-up of all
the files on the SD card onto your PC's hard drive. Do this back-up by
treating the TT as a removable hard drive - don't do it using TTHome. When
you are ready to this I can send you some step by step instructions.

Good luck.

That is what I have, that is what happened, and that is what I did!

Gee, it sounds like this is pretty common. I did make a backup when I
started(through TomTom Home), but it wouoldn't let me load it back.

Thanks for your help. I won't update that way anymore, and I will make a
direct backup of the memory card to another memory card.

I appreciate that, but I have a new one coming. I'll use this one before
doing anything to it.
