Hi, I am hoping someone can help with this one - I have a brand new TT One
USA/Canada and after installing the Home One software on a Vista laptop, I
tried to do an upgrade. Of course this crashed and burned and now the thing
won't even start. Just a quick drumroll and then an orange screen with a
circle blinking a red x. Before when connected to the laptop it mapped
drive G: but said it was a corrupt file system and asked if I want to fix
it. I said no, not wanting to harm the device. Now when plugged in, it says
the drive is not formatted. Nice!

I have sent the problem to TT last night but have yet to hear back. I have
would be ok with formatting it if I didn't think it would ruin the device.
I don't really want to take it back as I bought it at a Circuit City 100+
miles away. Is there an image file or something that will reformat and re-
install the original image to the device's memory? Tried the reset but I
guess they never thought of putting it in a protected area of memory.

Thanks for any help,
EdP

Sounds like the upgrade corrupted the memory card and the tomtom nolonger
boots becuse the memory card has became unreadable.

You will have to contact TomTom or a friend who has the same tomtom software
to get another copy of the maps software.

When you get it back, first thing I would do is make a backup of the memory
card. Not using TomTom Home but using windows to just copy all the files to
a new folder on your hard drive manually.

Then I would go visit the tomtom web site and download TomTom Home v2. Home
v1 was well known for corrupting the memory card when trying to do an
update.

Consider posting your problem on this forum, which gets a lot of traffic:

http://tomtomforums.com/

This fellow hosts copies of TT firmware (application software) for download:

Now all you need is your map. Have you tried bittorrent?

If you phone their technical support department, I think you will find they
will be able to sort things out for you.

The couple of time I have contacted them I have been quite impressed with
them.

Thanks for the replies! I went ahead and called tech support today and
they pretty much admitted the software corrupted the file system. After
about an hour with a rep trying to get the sucker to re-format, we gave
up and they gave me an RMA to send it in. Overall, a very patient and
friendly rep (sounded like the lady Yankees broadcaster from the YES
network) and quick response. I would definitely recommend them, other
than the crummy software. She said I should have upgraded the software
first. Oh well.

I will keep the info on the forums and the other posts for future
reference - I sure appreciate it!

Thanks, Ed!
