I was wondering if there is any GPS system that would be specific to
large trucks. I know about PC Miler, but that entails bringing a
laptop. Is there a system that will show truck routes, low
underpasses, bridges etc. that would be useful for daily long
distance trucking in the U.S. and Canada

Thanks

Wayne

Navteq announced 'Transport' mapping here in Europe last November and
TeleAtlas have recently announced a similar product. The map data has
road wdiths, weights and bridge heights etc.

I don't know of any special mapping or what GPS you are using. But with
different models of the Garmins there are different settings for
car/motorcycle and truck. What it changes I'm not sure except maybe the
type of roads it sends you on. Also if you are using a Garmin some of
the newer models let you load custom points of interest and there is a
website www.poi-factory.com that you can download different POI files
from for free. I know there is at least one trucker on the site that has
uploaded files of interest for truckers such as a listing for all of the
low overpases in the USA. I would suggest you look their site over.

Don is right on target. Garmin also has 7200 series that is made and
intended for use in trucks and motor homes. The only better solution is to
get a local pilot car to guide you. So far my Garmin has been worth its
weight in gold on bad weather days and finding places that I have never been
to.
