| Hello folks around the world,
since my childhood i have watched tv on cable not because of choice but
simply because there weren't any other option to view channels as govt had
not liberalized
the tv sector till few years ago...note that still tv is highly regulated in
this country till date.
it was only a few years ago that govnt allowed direct to home service to
begin But with lots
of restrictions in terms of channels...when i was in small town here in this
country .....we used
to get 4 - 6 tv channels while my friends in cities would get around 30-40
tv channels on cable.
in today's date when i myself reside in the biggest city of this country
Mumbai i get around
90 channels which is a mix of regional Language channels which i along with
many of my country men
do not understand.(there are around 20 official languages in this country
and moe than 100 dialects)
we also get some international hit channels like discovery , NGC , BBC,HBO
and other national channels like star , zee, Sahara..they are local ones and
have reach in every home.
so i have given you some feel of the tv scenario here.
now after being exposed to so many tv websites on the internet and through
my curiosity i have knowledge
of tv channels which my peers abroad are watching and i know about several
tv channel signals which are
hitting my city and this part of the world and they are free to air but i
can not watch them ..! why ?
because cable guys don't carry that signal and neither free to air service
launched by govnt mention
those channels when they advertise ..i heard in the news that several
European tv channels approached
the Govnmt to include their tv channels but govt not allowed them as they
feel it will corrupt the local
mass due to exposure to western culture !! what surprises me is that there
are 2 private DTH service
providers which are TATA SKY and DISH TV ...and they too carry the same
bouquet of channels that we
currently already have on cable. so only thing you get when you switch to
dth is clear reception and increase
in number of channels ....they offer around 150 channels.
I have short wave radio and i receive signals from around the world .china
...usa..australia , turkey ..Russia
Peru all the country. i listen programme on the radio.so these signals are
reaching my country and i along with
many others listen to it on radio directly from Washington to Mumbai or
London to Mumbai ...govnt could not do
much in case of radio they could not restrict it or don't bother to do
that....
going by that theory i am 100 percent sure similar way i have all the tv
channel signals reaching
my city unencrypted ..free to air ...example BBC..DW...TV5 of France ABC of
OZ ..and similar ones ...generally non
commercial and federal "window to country" channels like "VOA" of America.
so if i want to receive these channels what should i do ? i want to bypass
the cable guys ...govnt DTH service
am not interested in TATA SKY dth as well as all of them carry same stuff
with few or no international content.
i could assume it would be expensive affair and obviously there are no
advertisements for dish antenna ...and
nor have i spotted any antenna shop here. its unknown stuff...
now if i manage dish antenna through Amazon and somehow manage to get the
gadgets in the
country what should i buy ...and what are the basic things i require...
i wonder why not these international tv channels come to this country and
sell their equipment and
their cards so that we could insert it in set top box and receive channels.
i have heard these local DTH private players have configured their set top
box to get useless if we insert some other
service providers cards in their set top box.
so folks around the world if you can please help me with as much information
as possible
so that i could watch tv channels from your country i will be grateful to
you. by the way how do you watch
tv channels and does your government restrict tv channels you have access
to...i mean do you have access
to al jazzeera or a channel from say Mongolia ? do you know what's happening
in say New Zealand or ...
south Africa. Internet is there i know ..but what about tv signals....
