Author Problems getting POI from pocketgpsworld

I'm tring to use pocketgpsworld as it seems to have a great library of
POIs but when I download a file and unzip it I only get one file - not
two. I've tried various files and different formats for unzipping but
always the same result. I tried from different sites and got results,
but haven't found the range of POIs that this site has.

Can anybody help?

Have you tried asking on their forums ?

It might also help if you say what GPS unit you have, and what format
you're expecting them to be in...

I tried their POI forum, but there seemed to be a problem. I've got a
tomtom one and I was normally expecting two files - one being an ov2
file.

For me, a random download of POIs from the pocketgps site gives 2 or 3
files in each zip - the OV2, a bitmap (bmp) and an optional text file.

Which POI are you having problems with?

There are lots of different GPS models out there and they don't all work the
same <gasp>.

The people compiling and contributing the POI files are under no obligation
to put them in a format that YOU EXPECT.

The most generic POI file is one that has each location on a single line
something like this:
Longitude, Latitude, Name, Description
<next item>
with the fields separated by commas. It has a file extension of .csv.
This is what the POI files are like on most multi-platform sites.

Every mfg. that I know of either can load a .csv file directly or supplies a
utility to convert them.

If you expect 2 files, then you need a utility to create them yourself.
You probably already have that on a CD, or available from TomTom by some
other means.

Good luck. Unless you find a TomTom specific site, you probably won't find
many POI files in the format that you are expecting.

Asking in our forums would have been the obvious first step?

What device are you intending to use it with and what file do you get
when you unzip?

I've recently downloaded several POIs from this site for my 510, with no
problems. As someone else has said, the files unzip, to one, two or three
files, but all include a .ov2 which copies directy to the device.

I tried "Little Chefs", "Steam Railways" and "All Petrol Stations", and all
have loaded fine.
