| Rich, I suggest you try it again with Topo 7 cut maps and FW 1.4 (in public
beta). Topo 7 isn't necessary, except that they modified the way the maps
are cut so that Finds are much faster now. I think you will be surprised by
the difference, it's a new animal now. It's not instant, but it's far from
sluggish it used to be, and most of the problems we had with it early, are
gone. Even routing is greatly improved, due to a bug they found in the way
routes were calculated on major highways, which was really slowing them down
in major metro areas.
Sluggishness, is almost always cause by data, where it's stored, and how
it's created and accessed. There are always tricks to make using the same
data on the same device, faster. With FW1.1, cutting a 20GB map and putting
it on the SD card was just asking for trouble. The same map in ram was twice
as fast, and the same map broken into a couple of smaller maps was even
faster. With FW1.4 it doesn't make much difference how big it is, and very
little difference where it is. That's gone a long way to making it faster.
As to the PN-20 help, yes, it's a complex piece of gear, but their Forums
are extremely helpful, and you can find any help you need there just by
searching and reading, or asking. There are dozens of PN-20 experts with far
more GPSr expertise than I have, helping other customers. The DeLorme staff
is very active in the forums, with information and with fixes to the FW from
members input, that have greatly improved it.
Check out the PN-20 forums if you haven't already.

Yes, I am a DeLorme customer and supporter, but anyone who knows me, knows
that I'm an honest one, and I tell it like I see it. DeLorme also knows me
well from 15+ years in newsgroups and now their forums, and of telling them
how I and other customers, see it. Sometimes it hasn't been pretty, but it's
been productive.
