Hi together,
I am working in a project in Africa. In the project are several groups
which we want to pinpoint with GPS.
Every GPS point should be associated with a date and other criteria
(name of employee, region, etc).
Afterwards it should be possible to select and map only points meeting
a special criteria (e.g. date > 2006 and employee=y).

Can you tell me an easy to use software (or better freeware :-) which
is able to do that?
It would be good if we could add our own maps (e.g. bmp).

Thank you very much for your help!

This is stored in a feature table.

This is queried from the feature table.

Look at http://www.freegis.org/ for a list of free GIS software. Interesting
for beginners might be:

http://qgis.org/
http://udig.refractions.net/conflue...splay/UDIG/Home

but there are more...

Hi Martin,

great, I started with ArcExplorer but these programs seems to be quite
similar (I got a lot of ESRI shapefiles but these programs seems to be
able to handle them).

One more question (please consider me a real beginner in GIS :-):
Is it EASILY possible to measure distance automatically with these
programs (or would be one best)?
I have two tables, one with names and positions of hospitals, the
other table is with our villages (names and position). Can I easily
query the nearest hospital and the distance and write it to the first
table?

Thank you very much, to be able to measure this would be a great help!

Cheers,
Andreas
