Author I Want It All! : )

Well - I almost bought a Vista C this last summer/spring.
What I Need:
1. Proximity Alarm to avoid kayaking over those water falls, and
snowmobiling over those cliffs
2. With #1 above; being able to enter my own routes as most smaller
waterways are not in the GPS Software (Correct?)
3. COLD weather resistant for snowmobiling
4. For #3 REALLY Need to be able to enter trails as Snowmobiel trains seems
to change every year, and I doubt many are preprogrammed
What I want:
1. All The Memory in the world! : )
2. To be able to upload the NYS Orthoimagery maps/data and to tie it with
the GPS info
3. A Screen good enough/big enough to display the wonderful NYS Orthoimagery
maps. (Google does get theirs from these NYS Fly overs, but not down to the
same resolution)

I think the Vista C did what I Needed: Correct? Can the proximity alarm do
Vibrate? as those snowmoblies a bit less than quiet!
I Know I will not be what I want!!! : )
Is there a newer model out there now?

Thanks

Ok - I've done some more research:
Seems that the GPSMAP 60CS does all of the VistaC and more - for about 10
buck less, with a bigger screen
But the 60CS has half the memory than the 76CS with the 76 about 70 buck
more - but for kayaking and snowmobiling, the 76 has a unneeded marine
component that may use up that extra memory... Does the 76 have more memory
to use than the 60, or not really?
Probably am not asking this too well... But thanks for at least looking at
this! : )

I bought a GPSmap 60CS a week ago. (previous GPS GPS48 started having
screen issues).

The memory is sufficient to load all the street level data from
MapSource / MetroGuide Canada v4 from Alberta, to Thunder Bay Ontario
if you explain the farthest north maps (which may have fit, but I won't
need them anytime soon.).

I expect for topographical maps the area will be smaller, but I would
expect you could load most of the areas you regularly visit, and make a
few edits to your list when you are traveling further afield.

I wish Garmin would switch to using SD, or CF memory cards, but the
advantage of having the memory built in is the ruggedness of the unit.

The biggest dislike for the Garmins is the proprietary nature of the
maps. You can however load Tracks onto it and configure a colour and
use them for pre-marking trails.

I can give you a better answer next week when I load the maps for this
falls hunting trips. WHen my "better half" gets done using the 76CS
this weekend I'm going to load that CitySelect maps for pretty much a
large section of Eastern NY, up through Conn. and into extreme northern
Maine. I'm also loading the topos for northern Maine, Mid-Hudson Valley
in NY and the City Maps and Topos for NE PA. That's quite a bit of
detail. I'll let you know if it all fits.

As for the marine component, it won't use any memory if you don't load it.
