I currently have a Sandisk Standard Grade 256 Mb card in my 2610. I have
been looking at the Sandisk Ultra 11 1 Gb cards which will obviously store
around 4 times more info.

What I don't know is whether these "faster" cards will result in faster map
redraws and route calculations.

Any views? Any other advantages / disadvantages?

Faster is always better, but fast flash memory is probably intended
mainly for cameras where the time spent recycling between shots is
important, even if the improvement is only a fraction of a second. In
a GPS does a fraction of a second faster route calculation really make
any difference? Probably not.

Here's a site that discusses speed issues in camera memory. I think
after reading it you will conclude that it really doesn't make much
difference. Buying from an honest manufacturer who will honor rebates
and warranties is probably the most important issue.

The Faster Memory will make no difference. It's been tested by many people
around here. The Faster speed is during writing, which is needed for save
pictures faster in Camera's that support the faster speed. On your 2610,
the only thing it's doing is reading. It's not going to be noticeable
faster on the 2610. Buy a regular 2 gig card and have the entire US loaded
up at once and never worry again until you want to update the maps to a
newer version.

Did prices go up on the Standard SanDisk 2 Gig Compact flash cards? I've
had mine for about 2 years maybe and paid $145, and I just did a quick check
and haven't found anyone selling them for less then like $179 now. Would
have thought they would be in the $100 range by now.
