| I bought an Etrex in May this year. I use Mapsource to program routes
and load them into the Etrex. I have to gauge the six figure grid
reference (British Grid) for each waypoint from my paper maps, and
this is not always very accurate.
I have noticed mid-route that the Etrex intelligently switches from
one waypoint to the next if I pass by one and start moving towards the
next, even though I only got within 200-300 ft of the programmed grid
reference. However, I have programmed routes for a couple of walks,
and because I don't seem to get close enough to the first waypoint,
the Etrex steadfastly refuses to advance to the second waypoint - the
pointer page keeps telling me that I am getting further and further
from the first waypoint. Eventually I have switched to the map page
and followed the lines of the route instead.
Can anybody offer a way around this problem (apart from getting a
different GPS or spending money on better mapping software)? The one
feature I would really like which the Etrex does not offer is to be
able to say at any point in the route, "forget that waypoint, point me
to the next one".
