Author map set question for 2610 street pilot

Hi,

I am new at this and just learning how to work it. I found this part called
map sets. So I made two of them for different parts of a trip I'm planning.
It let me name them so I can find them again. I saved them on the hard
drive. they have an extension of .gdp I think. It shows the file size as
you go along. my chip is a 128Megs. The two map sets add up to 60 megs.

My question is can I load both of the map sets into the gps at once and have
them both there so I can switch between them, and if so, can I make say 3
more that would add up to another 60 megs, and then have 5 sets to use?

It took me a long time to make a route, and I saved it.
Can I email the route to my sister to use in her 2610?

Thanks for any replies.

Mike

Hi Mike

As far as I am concerned you can only load one map set at a time,
because when loading a mapset the 2610 first erases previous mapsets in
the memory.

You can e-mail a route to your sister, and she can use it if she has
the same version of maps that you have, e.g. City Navigator ver.?, or
whatever you have.

Have you considered buying a larger compact flash card? The price has come
down so much and you can get a remarkable trip into a 512 meg card. It sure
is more convenient when it all fits the way you want it to. By the way, the
2610 works fine with a 2 gig card. That is big enough to hold all of North
America.

Howard,
Thanks for the info.
I'll keep my eye out for a larger one.

Not sure what you're trying to accomplish. Why not just select all the
maps you're talking about having in these 5 sets in one larger one and
download it to your 128 MB card? From what you wrote above it sounds
like they'll all fit so I see no need to do any switching. Since you
already have the maps selected you can just 'cut and paste' the
separate sets into one larger set on your PC and then download that to
your 2610.

The only time I use the feature of being able to switch between maps on
the GPS itself is when I have multiple *types* of maps loaded that
cover the same area. So I might have both BlueChart marine maps and
street maps loaded for a given area. In that case I'd use the street
maps to drive to the marina and then switch to the BlueChart maps for
use on a boat.
