| If I physically open my GPS60 and add more memory, will that turn it into a
GPSMAP60, or are there other fundamental differences?

| Not going to work! I have a GPS60 myself, works pretty good along with my
2610 to go Geocaching.

I have just a GPS60 and it's great for Geocaching!
I still can't see why Garmin would produce two completely different devices
rather than a single unit that can determine whether it's capable of doing
the MAP stuff.
If this off-road Geocaching wasn't such a niche 'sport', I'm sure somebody
would've cracked both devices open to see the differences, and maybe even
offer an 'upgrade' service. But I'm not going to be the first !
