Not entirely sure what this is, but their web updater is finally
available.

Mayhap they'll soon be so eager to update cartography software. What a
boondoggle.

Regarding Garmin Cartography, "If you purchased a locked (cartography
software) product ON or AFTER the release date of an update, you are
entitled to an unlock on the newer version of that product for free."
Ref: http://www.garmin.com/unlock/update.jsp

For the latest version of MapSource and nRoute software, inclucing
MapSource beta version, visit:
http://www.garmin.com/support/mappingsw.jsp

Thanks to the original poster pointing me to Garmin's web service for
updating the firmware on my GPS receivers.

I don't get it, what does this Updater do? What is it good for?

Automatically senses your unit and checks for any driver/software
updates. The Garmin site would have been a good place to check it out.

Never read the fine print. There ain't no way you're going to like it.

I just upgraded my Forerunner 301 software. I guess it works.

Exactly!

I can see no use for this gimmick. It's much easier to just check the
website for any updated software than to detach my GPS and then attach
it to my computer to do the same thing.

Trust me there is a use for it. I've seen GPS sales people in chain
stores that couldn't even turn a GPS on!!!! For those types (computer
inexperienced) they need all the help they can get to update their GPS
firmware. However I agree....if you have limited knowledge on how to use the
Internet and a GPS there is no reason to use the web updater. I tried it
yesterday just to see what it done and I could do it faster by just going to
the normal update page.
