Garmin has posted owners manuals for the StreetPilot 2730, 7200 and
7500. No actual announcement yet.

It is always fun to try to figure out what something is from the Manual.

so far, it appears the the 2730 begins with the 2720 and adds mp3 and a
built in FM transmitter to play the music or audiobooks through the car
sound system.

the 7200/7500 are totally new.

Apparently, the 7200 & 7500 also display traffic info from an FM
traffic receiver or XM. They can display video from a backup cam or
DVD etc. SD and USB mass storage can be used.

It appears that the 7500 is capable of dead reconing.

They look like nice units, but I'm fearful of their cost. It also
appears that the beanbag mount isn't an option given their size.
The manual refers exclusively to the "mounting plate". This makes
them seem like more of a semi-permanent GPS than a portable.

I really like the weather data option. That's pretty nice, even
if it requires a subscription.

They also appear to use the "i" series interface, but they do have a
remote, so that's not such an issue for those of us that prefer the
26x0/27x0 line.

Actually, the 7xxx units are the same size as the 27xx units. Garmin's
product direction now appears to be the following:

1. c3xx - Competition with TomTom
2. 27xx - Motorcycle use and competition with RoadMate and OEM systems
3. 7xxx - Competition with Lowrance and OEM systems

Not with what is supplied with the 2720 out of the box. If you happen
to have MapSource and the same maps already loaded on the PC then I
understand you can download those routes to the 2720.

Apparently if you have a 2720 you can now ask Garmin to send you the
City Navigator DVD and they will do that free of charge. (sort of an
undocumented feature :) )
I don't have one (yet) but read it on a shop website and in a review of
the 2720 on Amazon.com.

Page 48 of manual shows standard mounting plate which can be used with
bean-bag.

The FM transmitter option would be illegal in UK, and possibly other
countries.

But, AFAIK, you can't install the maps from the DVD into MapSource on
the PC. I would love to be told otherwise.

I bought the latest City Navigator DVD

I dropped it in the CD/DVD drive and promptly loaded all the maps onto
my PC.

I have a SP2610.

In the list of drop down maps in Mapsource, City Nav 7 is there, so
are the maps.

Why would you think you can't install the maps to the Mapsource
interface???

More Info

I just looked at my CN7 DVD. It appears that Mapsource is in the cab
file so I think it will install it.

However, CN7 is an update.

How to install this Update if you do not have a previous verson.

Use "Regedit" and create a key like this:
& #91;HKEY_LOCAL_MACHI
NE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\M
apSource\Families\No
rth American
City Navigator v5]

PS after you are done installing, remove the key befor you start
MapSource!!!!!

The dvd that is for the 2610 is not the NT (New Technology) version of
city navigator north america. But what I read on another gps group is
that it will show in MapSource but will show as the NT version of
version 7. Jerry

So let me see if I have got this straight, as I seem to been working
under a grave misunderstanding for all this time.

From out of the box I can install the City Navigator maps and
Mapsorurce program off the DVD you supply and plan trips on the PC
which I can then download to the 2720?

If so, then why is is the DVD not mentioned on the Garmin website?

The Garmin site shows the City Navigator North America NT DVD shipped
with the SP2720, but I think that NT version is brand new. I bet they
used to include the regular CN NA DVD, just as Darrell says.

I am on my 2nd generation Garmin StreetPilot and I have always loaded
the maps off the CD or now the DVD to my PC.

Yes, I plan trips, locate waypoints on the PC, then download them to
the GPS.

So as not to confuse you :)

Seriously I think they left it out because a large % of their customers
will never install it anyway since the maps are preloaded.
It's a good thing that it appears that they do deliver it when asked
now.

I don't see that on their website (it is on ours) but originally they
did not include the software. I suggested several times that they either
make the software available upon request or include it with the 2720. Garmin
done both.

Asking for it is not required if you order it from a dealer that has
frequent stock rotation. Garmin has been shipping the 2720's with the
software for a few weeks now.

Bravo.

And people complain about Garmin's customer service. It's among the
best I've found in the consumer electronics world.
