ok, I'm a linux guy vs WinDoze... under reg edit I found the Garmin
registers (6 and 7) but there's no "Loc" keyword.
There's:
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
MRUCenter REG_BINARY "some hex data"
MRUScale REG_BINARY "some more hex data"
Do I highlight reg 6 say, and add a new keyword of LOC and then provide
a sting value of the directory to the topo East maps on the hard drive?
i.e. c:\garmin\topos\east

Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, "Where have I gone wrong?"
Then a voice says to me, "This is going to take more than just one night"

Steve, I think you found the Garmin key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER
instead of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. The link I provided above suggests to
use the "Find..." feature which I think might have led to that (i.e.
it found the wrong Garmin reg key).
Please do not add Loc to the other Garmin reg key -- messing with the
registry is considered dangerous and can easily damage your programs
(e.g. cause them to crash) and even the Windows OS itself. Adding Loc
to the wrong Garmin reg key may have no ill effect in this case, but
there's no need to risk it.
Instead of using find, simply expand the needed keys in the registry
tree manually. In RegEdit, start at "My Computer" -->
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Garmin --> MapSource --> Products.
The keys named "6", "7", "8", and "9" should be found there with their
respective "Loc" entries. Double click "Loc" in one of those keys and
replace the CDROM path with the path of where you've copied the
respective map folder on your hard drive. For example, I set
"7"-->"Loc" to " C:\Garmin\TOPOUSA\We
st", and it used to be "L:\West"
where L: is the drive letter of my CD drive.

BINGO! That was it. I overlooked the "LOCAL" <rolling eyes> As soon
as I read your note and went back into the reg. and looked I gave myself
a good smack. ;-)
I backed up the reg. before I did anything and I have a clone of my hard
disk on a backup hard disk (can ya tell I've shot myself in the foot
before? ;-) )
Thank you sooooooo much! If you're ever going to be around
Poughkeepsie, NY, give me a shout. The drinks are on me!
