A Routing Question

| If I define a route on the PC, then click "Select Maps Around Route" should
this combination be saved as a route, a map or both? How should it be
transferred to the GPS (GPSmap 76C) - route, map or both?
Thanks for any help,

In mapsource you save the whole shabam; maps, routes, tracks, waypoints in
a .gdb file.

If you use the "select maps around route", it is probably because you want
to upload the maps. So upload the maps.
If you defined the route, it is probably because you want to upload the
route.
So upload the route.
In other words, upload both maps and routes, if that's what you want.
On the other hands, you might want to download the maps from the gps first,
before you define the route, so you know of the maps are already in the gps.
Downloading maps only takes a few seconds, as you are not actually
downloading the map data, only the name (ID number?) of the map sections.
PS: It would be really nice if it was possible to add and remove map
sections in the gps on the fly, without having to erase and upload an entire
new set of map sections.
But as the computer is easily 20 times faster than the gps in calculating a
route, and the computer can take up to a minute it seems to build a map set,
I guess it's beyond the capacity of the gps to do it. I also think it would
take more space, as each item would then need to be tagged with the id of
the map section it belonged to.
