C330 Question - Waypoints

| Thanks for that useful information!
This GPS stuff is all still very new to me. I just updated my unit
software to Version 4.8 (from 4.4). According to Garmin's website, this
should add the capability of marking waypoints from the My Locations
screen. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to do this.
First, I don't see a "waypoints" option on that screen. Secondly, does
this mean that I should be able to map out a route from Point A to Point
B to Point C to Point D, etc? If so, how do I do that?
Any additional help ( ie: directions as step-by-step as possible) would
be appreciated.
Thanks again!

| Glad to help Bert, but there isn't much help I'm afraid.
I went round and round with Garmin tech support via email on the
waypoint question, and they finally just told me to call (not! 45
minute wait!) and stopped answering my emails.
To me (and to a lot of other people and apparently you too) a waypoint
is a stop along the way, or a way to specify that you want to take a
specific route or road rather than the one that the GPS routes. The
equivalent term in DeLorme Street Atlas terms would be a "via".
Well, that is apparently not Garmin's interpretation. As far as I can
tell, a waypoint is just another stored favorite location, and you are
right that I can't figure out how to set one from My Locations either.
I get the impression that the developers put something in, but forgot
to tell the tech support people how to use it!
The bottom line is that if you want to go from A to B to C, you have
to (be at A obviously) manually set B and C in your favorites and
manually select them when you arrive at each one. In other words,
there is no route planning.
On the other hand, I am fairly comfortable with this. I wanted a unit
that my wife could use, and it fills my goal of just getting me from A
to B with minimal fuss. I have found that if you want to take an
alternative route, just do it, and the unit quickly adjusts to the new
route. But I have to confess that on a fairly long trip recently, the
times that I deviated from the suggested route were usually wrong -
i.e. longer, etc.

OK. Thanks for the explanation, Bob. I agree that true route planning
would be nice, but your suggested method works fine.
Today, I took a long trip out into the mountains and asked the unit to
guide me home. I was a bit disappointed, as it seemed to want to route
me WAY out of my way. (ie - 43 miles south away from the nearest
Interstate, when I needed to be heading east.) That's the first time
that I've seen it be seriously confused.

Bert-
In your prefs did you have FASTEST ROUTE or SHORTEST ROUTE selected?
Makes a major difference and would account for your issue.
