Author Three newbie questions regarding the C330

Hi all, kind of new to this but learning fast. I recently bought a SP
C330 which I can't imagine being without now. I wonder if someone
could answer a few questions for me however.

1. There's a SD slot on this unit; what would that be useful for? I've
already got City Select North America NT v7 preloaded so what could I
put on there? Other maps (if so what?), third party products or data
(again - any suggestions?)??

2. How often does Garmin update City Select North America NT, and did
I understand correctly that when they come out with version 8.00, this
would be a free update for me? (Or did I miss some 'fine print' <G>?)

3. Finally, from you veteran StreetPilot users - is there anything you
could pass on in the way of "must haves" like freeware software or
accessories or tips?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

There's freeware software out there?

Yes, but most is more aimed at the uses of handheld/outdoor GPS models
rather than automotive ones like the SP series. One example is
USPhotoMaps (jdmcox.com) that displays your tracklogs/routes/waypoints
on either topo maps:

There's also software like g7toWIN for organizing and storing your
tracks/waypoints/routes, and a variety of downloadable maps like those
at:
http://rwsmaps.griffel.se/ and http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/
