Just bought (in UK) an i3 Streetpilot and it doesn't seem to work. Before I
take it back... any suggestions?

It's supposed to have maps for Europe preloaded, right? But a message comes
on the screen asking me to load the maps.

I go past that and it tries to locate satellites, but never does. The map
then shows central London.

Can't think what else to do with it. Is it faulty?

Thanks

No, the i3 does not have preloaded maps. It has 128 MB of memory for
loading the maps. It should have come with City Select, but you mention
buying it in the UK and Garmin's site lists it as a domestic US product,
so I don't know what to tell you here. Certainly, if it didn't come with
any maps at all, I'd take it back.

It can take a long time (up to 10 minutes or more) to do an initial
acquisition from a cold boot. If you are doinmg it indoors, it will
take much longer if it does it at all. If you're doing it in a car,
be aware that the metallic coating used in some windshields to reflect
heat blocks GPS signals, and you might need an external antenna.

Thanks. I'll give it a bit longer to lock onto the satellites. Blurb on box
says it's preloaded with UK maps, so maybe there'a a fault with the
transflash card.

Had exactly the same problem. Rang Garmin UK. Solution is to turn it off.
Then press the 3 buttons starting from the left and hold them down as you
press. You must start from left. It then reboots and hey presto you should
find it works ok. Mine is fine now and I am very pleased with it.
