Mapping in an ETrex Legend

| Hi.
Given that the ETrex Legend has only 8Mb of memory, I'd guess that it
isn't going to even come close to holding all the data from a
Metroguide CD. So, very roughly, what kind of area of mapping coverage
could I fit into a Legend?
Thanks,
Colin MacDonald

Almost the whole of Wales (MG Europe v6) will go into 7.62MB. When I just
tried I was missing the Llanelli and Minehead tiles on the south coast (721
& 557KB) and a couple of small incursions near to Presteigne. Most of
Scotland will go into 7.58MB apart from the four tiles around Glasgow and to
the S and W and three tiles that include large amounts of N Ireland and the
Lake District. Not so good around London - the two tiles N & S of the river
plus the two adjacent tiles to the W (not quite including all the W part of
the M25) - 35km x 56km - eats 7.22MB.
So your answer is that it depends whereabouts you are going and whether you
are able to reload maps from a PC as necessary. You will be able to get a
lot more in if you can get hold of an older version MapSource product -
particularly if you don't need routing and searching capabilities, in which
case European Roads & Rec V 4 will much more compact although not so up to
date.
