MapSource screen shot - save as jpeg or bmp?
|
|
|
| I backpack and I build websites. I want to display my routes on my website
but can't find a way to save screen shots as .jpeg files. I can with
National Geographic. I can with Delorme. Anyone got a clue?

Alt - Print Scrn ?
(make a picture of your active window and put it in your clipboard)
And than paste it in a picture-editor like Paint or IrFanView or
something. Then save as .jpg and you are there. Maybe some editing en
resizing in between..

Try the mwsnap freeware - http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html
With that and irfanview (arguably the worlds best freeware photo editor)
you can do about anything you would ever want to do with a screen
capture or photo.

| It's wild. I've been taking images for years but I can't copy a screen shot
of a Garmin map. Have you done it before?
I've got a half dozen image editors and I've got 20 gig of jpeg files stored
on cd and my hard drive for my nature photography web site.

| Well isn't that spiffy. Thank you.
It doesn't have the resolution that saving a bitmap image direct would have
but if you don't blow it up it's wonderful. Thanks a bunch.
I'm still curious why one can't just save a MapSource image straight as a
bmp jpeg file.

Another way is to print to a file using PDFCreator (free download from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator).
It allows you to sent printout to a load of graphic file formats as well as
pdf. I'm using the latest beta release and that version allows you to set
the resolution parameters of each file format individually, although
resolution will always be limited by what the application is actually
sending to the printer so setting too fine a resolution may just give you a
huge file with no improvement in image quality. In the case of MapSource
you will of course get all the usual NavTech etc copyright junk that gets
added to any printout, but you can always trim that off later.

I don't have a MapSource application and I don't know. Is there a
setting in mwsnap for the file type that mwsnap saves to? I've only
used it once and that was awhile back.
Snagit http://www.SnagIt.com is another screen capture software I used
in the past, that is a commercial product and may have some more options
on default resolution and image types.

Don't know what to tell you.
Alt+Print Scrn works fine on my computer.
