| Hi--
I read that Garmin does not recommend the use of MetroGuide USA for
Vista C. Anybody have experience w this, or know why the caveat?

The difference between MetroGuide-NA (it's no longer just the US but
includes Canada as well) and CitySelect-NA is that MG is designed to
only support auto-routing on your PC, not directly on the GPS, whereas
CS supports both. Since auto-routing is a key feature of the VistaC
Garmin recommends that you use it with CitySelect-NA.
Note that CityNavigator-NA is also a similar mapping product but the
latest version has very large regions (many are 15 - 25 MB each) and is
therefore not really suitable for the VistaC which only has 24 MB of
memory.

| Even though it does not support auto-routing, I like Metroguide better
than City Select or any of the newer map systems. MG has FAR MORE
streets, backroads, and trails. CS has only major city streets in and
near the cities.
It all depends on what you NEED the maps for. If you are a city
delivery driver... get CS. If you ride motorcyles in the back
country... don't leave home without Metroguide.

That only goes for Metroguide v4. From version 5 and higher Metroguide
has used the same mapping data as City Select and City Navigator, just
without the on-GPS autorouting.

Absolutely the truth. Not for nothing the other products are called
"City*".
My old Metroguide 4.01 is still in heavy use when I travel away from the
city .. and it *does* support autorounting in my SP-III. Too bad they
didn't retain that capability in later versions.

Sounds as if you haven't seen any recent CS maps. Also the latest
version of MetroGuide has the identical maps and POI's that CS has.

It is absolutely true that MG4.01 has more road, street, lake and stream
information in smaller towns remote from cities than current CityNav
or CitySelect. Caveat: I know this to be true in California and Oregon
only -- because that's where I've compared the products.
Later versions of MG are likely inferior in this respect to MG4.01; I
believe the map data is from different sources.
