I'm leaving the US and heading to the middle east and just read this
persons rant about his GPS not working in europe. Am I going to have the
same problem even if I buy the right software for the countries I'm heading
to?

The G in GPS stands for Global. Your GPS will work anywhere on the planet.
I don't know which rant you are referring too, but I can only assume it had
to do with the America's basemap. An American 76c will not have any road
detail for Europe unless you purchase the correct software. There is not
much available for the middle east at this time, but that won't stop the GPS
form providing you your cooridinates so that you can use it with a good
paper map.

| As you have a mapping unit, there is a product (City Navigator ME) that
is pretty good for most of the ME (but not Iraq, if that's where you
are going)
