Author advice pls: Garmin GPSmap 76CS PLUS
Richard Karran

I"ve been considering buying the GPSmap 76C or CS, primarily for marine use,
......maybe for use in the car sometime in the future.
I was in a WEST MARINE store today and was told Garmin is making a special
"feature enhanced" version of the GPSmap 76CS, called the 76CS PLUS sold
only by West Marine.
Can anyone tell me if these additional features are available through the
regular free Garmin updates? If not, is it worth paying a premium at West
to get the PLUS version?
Thanks in advance for any offered advice.

Richard

Enhanced just means you pay more. GPSmap76s Will do everything you need =
plus some.
Don't buy mapsource until you see the map of your area.

I've had both the 76S and 76CS. I'm much happier with the 76CS. The
screen is much easier to see in sunlight and the user interface is much
more intuitive. Longer battery life too.

How much more did it cost you?

Honestly, I don't remember what I paid for the 76s but it wasn't very
useful to me with the poor screen and even poorer human factors. If I
recall, I got the 76CS for $350 US when I found it on sale one time.
To me, it's worth it. Especially with the road navigation that it has.

The cheapest I see if for now is around $400 with the rebates.
I got mine from http://www.gpsexplorer.com with no tax and free shipping.
