Author SP111 comparison to 2610 - My experience

Having recently upgraded the SP111 to the 2610 I have the following
observations to share:-

I miss the battery back up in the 2610 (compared to the SP111). It was good
to switch off the car or bike in a petrol station (or anywhere where you
were only going to be a minute or two) and keep the unit on. I could
re-route the supply to a permanent live but then I will risk flattening the
battery.

The 2610 seems to lose sat signal much more than the SP111 - and take longer
to find the signal again. I had WAAS enabled when I was getting this so have
disabled it - is this a possible solution when driving under intermittent
trees?

The 2610 is a lot smaller but retains the same size screen - much easier to
move between vehicles and indoors.

2610 seems to be quicker re-drawing the screen although not significantly as
I had expected.

I like the touch screen of the 2610 - easy operation even with motorcycle
gloves on.

My son loves the remote! He's in charge now when we are in the car.

Colours seem better on the 2610.

Overall though if you want a reliable, waterproof (great for the bike) unit
with voice navigation then either unit will do the job and individuals will
need to consider whether the 2610 is worth the premium.

If anyone is interested in the SP111 then it's on Ebay. Follow the link
below. Check out my other items which are SP111 and motorcycle related.

Yup. Just got the 2610 specifically for use on the bike, but now that I
have it will be moving it back and forth to the car as well.

A minute or two won't flatten the battery, unless you're trying to run it
off a set of AA's..! I use my 2610 on my bike and regularly leave it on
while I refuel. Wire it to a permanent supply and forget about it. (Not
overnight though..!!)

I'm with Ivor on this one. I leave mine on routinely for up to 10 minutes
or so.
