| Just sent my Vista C back to Garmin. For no apparent reason, the compass
would suddenly freeze in place. Bare moments before this happens, it
would usually suddenly swivel 90 degrees, then stop. The only ways to
unfreeze it would be to turn the power off then on, or to calibrate the
compass. However, this fix often lasted less than a minute. After 40
minutes on hold with Garmin, I finally got a rep, who told me to upgrade
the firmware from 2.20 to 2.30*. "So," I said to her, "after that
doesn't work, what should I do?" She gave me a return authorization.
Well, the upgrade accomplished, and it did nothing for the problem, so I
boxed it up and sent it back to Garmin.
* I hadn't done so before because I was able to use MacGPSBabel to
up/download waypoints to the Vista, and I didn't want to possibly jinx
things with the only application I can get to work with the GPS.
