I am no longer able to install City Select version 6 on my laptops or
desktop. When running the setup from Disc1 I get the following dialog box
message "Please start this data CD install from the Setup CD." This makes no
sense, since it is running from the Setup CD.

Can someone help me out on this? I couldn't find any cure on the Garmin
website. Am able to install other mapsource programs OK.

Thanks,
Scott Dunbar

It sounds as if your setup file(s) on the CD have become corrupted, or
possibly something in the garmin register is preventing City Select from
installing. You could try deleting other mapsource proograms from the PC and
installing CS on it's own.

I ran into this problem when I wanted to reinstall my PC after a
harddisk crash. I inserted CD1 and the exact same message popped up.
After some searching, I discovered another CD that was labeled a little
differently and that I hadn't recognised as being the actual setup CD
for City Select 6. When I started from that CD, it prompted me for the
others and the install worked fine.

Exactly, you can't do this from disc 1. CN should have come with a
separate setup disk.

AAARRRRGGGHHH!
Yes, you, Speed, and Denis had the answer. It turns out that the City Select
came with my iQue 3600 and needed the iQue setup disk to install it. The
setup disk and City Select ended up in 2 locations, and I did not connect
the two.

They will live together now, with a note on the City Select case with
instructions, which Garmin should have done.

Thank you all for the help.

What setup software comes with the garmin gpsmap 60 series? I have city
select v5, but do not have a setup disk. I get the same error.

It only comes with Garmin Trip and Waypoint Manager.
Cheers, Dave

Just ran into the same problem altho I only had the software purchased
independent of a hardware product. I kept flinging Disk1 and Disk2
into the cd and it still asked for the setup/startup disk. I did not
recall that there was a 3rd disk in a paper envelop with my CODE
NUMBER. Finally checked out my various Mapsource disks and found that
3rd INSTALL DISK. It was frustrating and Garmin could provide a
better message that says, there is a 3rd DIFFERENT disk to initiate
installation.

Having just pulled the set of disks to reinstall that darn usb AGAIN,
there is a separately packaged 3rd disk with City Select v6. It is in
a cardboard envelope. The Disk is simply graphicked and says Garmin,
SetupCD along the top and in the bottom right City Select Version 3.00
(which is interesting since the data is version 6, I believe).

The envelope is deceptively labeled:

"Setup Gude - Mapsource - Start Here"

with no outside evidence on the front that it is part of the City
Select software or more specifically INSTALLATION software.

The back of the folding envelope has a stickon label:

"S/n (serial number here)
Setup CD - City Select
Version 3
