Author What if I turn on my 176c in the caribbian?

I am heading to Anguilla tommorrow. 8 miles off the coast of St Martin.
I have a Garmin 176c with the standard info it came with. I moslty use
it on the water here on Long Island N.Y. with the Blue Chart chip. I
have added U.S. maps to the road chip but not Caribbian Islands.

I realize that if I turn the unit on in Anguilla it will give me my
coordinates; however: will it at least show that I am on land on an
island? I don't expect road maps.

I have my home set in the waypoints, and thought it would be neat to see
the direction and distance to my house.

Thanks,
Bchbound

Should do - the "European" Vista Atlantic basemap covers the entire world
with low res coastlines, national borders and major cities. eg in the US I
see state boundaries and state capitals. But as you say - no roads at all.

No time for that. Besides, This is a once every several years trip. I am
not spending money on software for this rare occasion.

I just want to know what I will see with what it came with.

You mean you have no time to read what we bloody well post? I live in
Europe and so I can't comment about your Americas basemaps but what I told
you is what we get on the basemap supplied with our "Atlantic" GPS units. I
have no reason to expect that your out-of -area coverage will be any
different. However if you don't have time to read replies then please don't
waste our time by asking pointless bleeding questions!

You really are a very insulting person, aren't you, David..? Ok so you're
annoyed by people not reading before posting, maybe you have a reason to
be, but there is no need whatsover to jump down people's throats like
that.

If you don't want to answer them then don't, but please don't be so
offensive.

You are every bit as bad as the OP! Try reading the bits of the thread that
you snipped and you will find that I tried to answer the question to the
best of my knowledge.

The question was:

And I replied:

To which the OP responded:

I told him that my Garmin Atlantic basemap was showing exactly what he
wanted to see outside of its area of detailed coverage and so he could
expect the same from his own, presumably Americas Highways basemap. His
response seems to indicate that he didn't have the common decency to read
and understand my reply because he didn't feel he had the time to be
bothered with it. I think my flame was more than justified. He could have
answered his own question in a couple of minutes anyway by panning his GPS
map display to the area that he was interested in.
