Author Creation of own background maps

Hi everyone,

Is it possible to create your own maps to use in a 60CS?

I'm not talking about tracks and stuff, but actually creating a 'basemap'
for areas not covered by the commercial maps.

Cheers,

Cam

You haven't made the slightest effort to find out the answer, have you? Go
away and spend just ten minutes looking at recent postings on GPS related
groups (hint: "Google Groups") and you will then be able to come back and
ask a useful question!

Yeah ... thanks :o|

I have read your posting in another NG but it hasn't helped me which is why
I came here.

I understand that the 'basemap' is firmware but what I'm talking about is
creating a background map that could be loaded into user memory of a unit
like the GPSMAP 60 CS.

Is this just a graphic file with reference points added to allow
map-to-ground?

Thanks,

Cam

Questions about creation of user-maps comprise a large proportion of the
traffic on the GPS related newsgroups. If you had followed netiquette
guidelines and read sufficent previous postings you would have rapidly
answered your own question (the answer is "Yes") and been able to ask us
something useful instead.

The answer to your follow up question is "No".

Maps are vector files in custom format specific to the manufacturer of the
receiver. You can make them yourself and upload to your receiver using a
number of different combinations of programs. It isn't difficult but it is
a long process. For example follow the links from the GPS Trackmaker home
page. Then look back over recent postings to this group, alt.satellite.gps
and sci.geo.satellite-nav
