Laptop and Garmin GPS18 Deluxe vs handheld

| Hi guys, I have been thinking of buying a garmin gps18 deluxe or similar if
there are any. I have been told that some handheld can be used with a
laptop in a similar way. Can you use a handheld as a gps engine on a
laptop with city select? If I could, it would mean that one laptop could be
used for double duty.
I would be using the laptop in my truck and the large screen would be a lot
nicer. I would appreciate any comments on these units and the software.

| Yes! I started out with the Vista and have upgraded to the 60CS. so now we
just keep the Vista mounted in the van connected to the laptop and it works
just great. We use nRoute with City Select with no problems. My wife just
took a long trip to New Hampshire using it and it never failed her.
