| Gee, am I disgusted. The first time I used my 60CS in a way which I
needed, rather than having it along sort of as a toy, it failed.
Simply put, the unit shuts itself off after an unpredictable time. There
is no warning or other symptom. One time I 'caught' it doing this, the
screen faded from bottom to top taking about .8 sec to do so.
The unit had fresh batteries and showed full bars in the battery meter.
However, these batteries are about 3 years old and have been with me on
the boat at sea, so I change to a new set of batteries anyway. That kept
the unit going for about a hour then it shut off again. There is no low
battery warning and the meter is always a full bar battery level. Can
this still be a bad battery set? (I can only hope).
The unit shuts off either when moving (I have it on a motorcycle) or
still so it isn't a vibration thing. It's shut off while 'paging' or
just sitting there doing what I hoped it would do which is calcuate
average speed so I can predict ETA's and adjust accordingly. If it shuts
off or won't stay on (your choice) it's useless for calculating overall
rates.
Just as a FYI, I rode an 'Iron Butt' yesterday which is at least 1,000
miles in less than 24 hours on a motorcycle (I did 1,100 in maybe 17).
Obviously time to point was important as was average rate and time to
checkpoints. Due to the failure of this unit, I was back to doing the
calcs in my head which works, but it's not what I paid all this money to
do.
Is this a known problem with a fix? TIA.
