Author 2610 Questions

I just bought a new 2610 and had a couple of questions. On the plug-in,
where the speaker is, there's a place to plug something in. Is it a speaker
or something. Can't seem to find anything in the manual. Also, I've heard
that you can beam addresses to it with a PDA. Can you also send them with a
cell phone? Is there a certain format that it will accept? I tried to send
an address via the 'Send Business Card' option, but nothing happened.
Thanks.

Mel

The speaker assembly includes a port for the dead-reckoning cable that is
used by the 2650. I've heard that some speaker assemblies also include
a headphone jack, but I haven't seen one.

Your source is inaccurate. The 2610 does not support irDA or Bluetooth.

It does have an IR port for use with its own remote control though. What
interface does this use..?

What do you mean by 'interface'?

Protocol, whatever.. You point the remote at it and press buttons, what
form does the signal emitted take..?

I would assume that it's an anolog IR sensor similar to other remote
controls, but I don't know.

I think it's just IR. One of the other GPS, probably the Magellan Road Mate,
will accept addresses from PDA's through the IR port. I don't think it's a
documented feature either. Just wondered if this was the same. I think the
2610 is twice the unit as the Road Mate. So many more features and the maps
of Canada are so much better. Tried them both.
