| In Beijing, I saw a Vista with a preloaded Map of several Chinese
cities with much higher resolution than the WorldMap has.
Sadly, the people in the shop could only tell me that the map was
preloaded when they got the Vista, they had no CD for it. (They also
seemed to have no clue how to even load maps onto an eTrex!).
Looking through the Garmin website I cannot find any product which
includes detailed maps of China.
Does anyone know where I can get that data (or any other compatible
maps of CHina, at least the larger cities, Hongkong would be a nice
bonus, as would other large Asian cities). I already have a Legend, so
I am not looking to buy a whole new bundle..

Do some searching on Google. I had the same problem with maps for
Thailand. But I found some sites with lots of fairly detailed maps
(non-routable though). I've now combined them into my own GPS map of
Thailand.
I've found this Yahoo group
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GPS_China_Fans/
Good luck

Would you be able/willing to share that Thailand map?

Sure. I'll upload it to the binaries group. I'll let you know when I
post it. Could be a few days. It's public domain. I've just joined
lots of little maps into one big one for my GPS.

I've found the files in double quick time. Uploaded to:
alt.satellite.gps.binaries
You'll have to edit some of the .reg files etc to ensure the paths are
correct before you add them to Mapsource.
Hope they work for you.
