Author Routes on a 2610 and Via Points

I have had my 2610 for a few months and it works extremely well. I have
taken it on several business trips and it is particularly handily when
scouting out the local attractions/points of interest in these various
cities. My question concerns having the 2610 announce arrival at Via
Points. When I add Via Points to a Route, sometimes the voice prompt
announces 'Arriving at Via Point' but most often the via point is treated
simply as a point along the way and I drive past it unannounced. Am I doing
something wrong or is this a bug in the software?

I don't recall mine ever announcing the via points. One thing I do know is
that sometimes it keeps the via point and tries to get me back to it after
I'm passed. I wonder if I didn't get close enought for the via point to
clear.
