| I just noticed that the "release date" is posted as 06/01/2005. That
means that if you've activated your city select after that date, you
get the new one included in your price paid.
Bummer that I've been sitting on my copy since Jun 2nd, waiting for the
announcement. Garmin - you've got to get your act together on this
stuff...

| City Navigator is the map set for 26n0 (and maybe some other units). City
Select is for the 310/320 (and maybe some other) GPS units.
City Navigator supposedly has more street details (certain types of vehicles
excluded, etc). I don't think these maps are interchangeable in the
different GPS units.

| The City Select entry was removed from the list shortly after I posted
my messaeg this morning. I was assured by Garmin that the entry would
be returned to the list and that the dates won't change.
That means I'm going to activate my version 6 that I've been sitting on
for 7 weeks.

They are interchangeable. Any device that can use City Select can
also use City Nav. Whether or not some of the advanced routing features
of City Nav (time of day restrictions, etc.) are supported by the GPS
is another matter, but basic routing will work.

| I don' t think that's the case.
I believe that both City Select and City Navigator can do routing on a
PC and then upload those routes to a GPS, but only City Select will
allow a GPS to do it's own route calculations (on units that support
that function).

| I have a 2610 w/ City Navigator. The 2610 can do route calculations by
itself.
It is interesting that the v7 maps are published on a DVD. I would think
many more people have PCs equipped with CD drives than DVD drives. I would
think the DVD format would limit the potential market. Also, the v6 maps
were published on a CD (in compressed files I presume) and they could all
fit on the 2gig CompactFlash (consumed ~1.6gig) I purchased for my 2610.
Has the maps set grown in size to justify a DVD?

Trust me...City Navigator autoroutes on GPSs. I've got it for my 2610 and
it works just fine on my 60C, too.
I believe you are thinking of Metroguide. v5 and later of MG North
America will not autoroute on the GPS.

As DVD drives can be had for under $30, I don't think it's a serious
limitation.

| Anyone know if the new City Navigator North America v.7 DVD can be used to
update the Street Pilot 2620 having version 6? The Garmin website is not
clear on this. Or do I need to spend another grand for a Street Pilot 2720
that comes preloaded with version 7?
Thanx,
Key Bored

Probably not. But, for the v6 update, there was a specific 2620 upgrade
DVD. One can imagine that they'd do the same for v7.

I use City Select Europe and City Nav US on my 76C.

I am using City Navigator on my Street Pilot and it has all the
auto-routing, re-calculating etc.. and I read CS and CN are pretty =
similar
to each other, and dunno why the upgrade CN is about TWICE more expensive
than CS.

| I held off buying something newer than my SP3 for this announcement, so I
understand. But now they have mudded the water with new models and I am
waiting for the dust to clear on what to buy.

| I wonder if all the maps will consume more than 2 gig on the unit?
